[HGM03-P05] Record of tsunami disaster and its utilization for disaster prevention

The tsunami caused by the 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake caused widespread damage to the coast of the Tohoku region. In addition, topographical changes such as coastal erosion occur, and it also has an aspect as a topographical disaster. Regarding this tsunami disaster, especially in the coastal areas of Fukushima Prefecture, access was restricted due to the nuclear power plant accident, so it was not possible to conduct a sufficient survey immediately after the tsunami, causing confusion in the field regarding wave height and inundation depth. That is, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (2012), it was 9.3 m or more in Soma, while it was 13 to 15 m in Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. The values vary greatly depending on the observation point, which is an obstacle for residents to consider disaster prevention and future evacuation behavior. Currently, the Pacific coast of Fukushima Prefecture is in the process of reconstruction from the earthquake, and buildings that leave traces of the tsunami are being demolished one after another. A detailed tsunami height survey is urgently desired in order to effectively develop disaster prevention activities including future education in the disaster area.
