[HSC05-P12] A case study on the cost of CO2 storage based on parameters of seawater depth and the depth of injection wells

The trend of decarbonization is accelerating toward the achievement of carbon neutrality, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to virtually zero. The prime minister of Japan, Suga announced a policy of aiming virtually zero of greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 in October 2020. In order to achieve the long-term goal while ensuring stable power supply, it is essential to install Carbon dioxide Capture and Storage (CCS) for thermal power plants. Therefore, it is important that CCS is economical for commercialization of it in the future. On the other hand, the cost of CCS depends on the conditions, for example, the distance of transportation from the CO2 emission source to the storage site, the method of transportation, seawater depth, the depth of injection wells at a storage site and other conditions. In this study, the ranges of cost of CO2 storage are estimated by setting several cases for the seawater depth and the depth of injection wells. The results are discussed.
