[HTT14-01] A GIS-based study on accessibility of public bus system in Sapporo

It is commonly known that one of the most important keys to realize a compact city is to develop convenient urban public transportation. According to the second Sapporo city planning master plan in March, 2016, there is a trend of population decreasing, super-aged society, and the shrinkage of the productive age population in Sapporo. With this background, it is desired to have thorough assessments of accessibility covering the residential areas for the sustainable development of the city. This study focuses on the accessibility in Sapporo city with a particular interest in the public bus system and its spatial relationships to the population and point of interest (POI) data. For this purpose, the specific population in every block is estimated and the POI index is obtained. More specifically, by analyzing the population and POI distribution around the bus system (every stop and route), we evaluate the accessibility of the bus system in Sapporo. The network analysis and spatial analysis are performed to provide the objective assessment of the accessibility which will be supportive information for the future urban planning.
