[MGI34-09] Practice, Application and Future Potential of High-Capacity Space Data Processing
Keywords:lunar and plaentary exploration, data processing, earth observation, GIS, outreach
The amount of scientific information obtained from an exploration program increases rapidly over these years. Moreover, the total amount of data gathering all explorations made so far is also increasing. This means that the quantity of data that scientists should be processed is increasing. This leads to a growing demand for the development of data processing systems that scientists can operate intuitively and comprehensively.
Also, such system can be used, not by scientists, but by general citizens. The "Citizen Science" movement, which is led by citizens themselves to carry out scientific activities, is broadening its pace. Also, the publication and public outreach are currently generally regarded as an essential element of the scientific activity to deliver importance and progress of scientific research. The author should point out that the system useful for scientists may also be useful for citizens in general.
In this presentation, in addition to the lunar and planetary data processing system that the author has been working on for many years, authors address the outline of the ground data processing system for the GOSAT-GW, Global Observing Satellite for Greenhous Gases and Water Cycle, and outreach-oriented games using data obtained by Himawari 8, Geostationary Meteorological Satellite of Japan. These systems and applications demonstrate the essence of what the high-capacity space data handling system should have. Also, we address the future potential and ideal form of high-capacity space data processing system.
