[MSD40-P11] Global Wind Measurement Program-2
Keywords:wind, satellite observation, global observation
Observation of wind is the last part in Satellite Earth Observation. The difficulties of the wind observation are its 3-D structure and precision of measurement. Recent weather satellite observation made it possible using AMV technique with a few channels. Using future infrared sounder on the next generation weather satellite, more fine vertical structure with global coverage data than of current satellite, will be observed. However vertical structure and wind vector determination are only possible through numerical model. To keep the precision of such data, wind Lidar satellites are expected. The first wind Lidar satellite ADM-Aelous was launched already and getting more precise data than using infrared sounder. But the observation capability of Lidar limits its observation area. To get global 3-D wind measurement data, we are studying about the combination of these two sensors. This year we will report temporal expected performances of new infrared sounder and wind lidar.
