[MZZ44-P03] Wilkins’s lunar world

*Shigeyuki Aoki1 (1.Faculty of Letters, Chuo University)

Keywords:plurality of worlds, the Scientific Revolution in England, history of planetary science, habitable zone

The shift from the geocentric world-view to the heliocentric one, during the 16th and 17th century in the midst of the Scientific Revolution, transformed the ancient plurality worlds doctrine to more concrete theses on specific satellites and planets. This presentation deals with John Wilkins, who first argued in England that the moon is probably a habitable world.
