[O02-P13] Inform of weather disasters in geoparks

The land of Japan is prone to earthquakes and volcanic disasters, but the most frequent disasters are meteorological disasters. Typhoon-Vera class disasters are rare, but in recent years, rainfall caused by line-shaped precipitation system and river bank failures due to flooding. Especially in 2018 and 2019, meteorological disasters occurred in many parts of Japan. These disasters are not unique to others, but can also occur in geopark areas.
Therefore, the disaster prevention working group of the Japan Geopark Network (hereinafter referred to as JGN) thought that these disasters should be communicated in all geopark areas, and consulted with the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (hereinafter referred to as NIED). JGN and NIED signed an agreement on comprehensive cooperation in 2018, and have been working on a system called the "Earthquake!" to communicate the real-time occurrence of earthquakes in each region.
We have also decided to collaborate on weather-related disasters that have occurred frequently in recent years. The content of the collaboration is to create explanatory display panels on recent weather disasters and to display these panels in the Geopark area.The purpose of this project is to improve disaster literacy by viewing disasters as a personal challenge.
As the JGN, which has proposed putting more efforts into disaster prevention at UNESCO Geopark, we would like to continue to strengthen activities to inform of various disasters in geopark regions throughout Japan.
