[O07-P40] Toward "Solid-State Version Chromatography" Second Report
Keywords:microgravity, magnetic separation, diamagnetic material, solid chromatography, translational motion
Last year, we proposed the principle of separating and collecting a mixture of diamagnetic solid particles by material. In order to demonstrate this principle, we constructed an apparatus and conducted experiments. As a result, particles of six inorganic materials and six organic materials were collected on the collection plate as a group of particles that differed by material. We were able to verify the effectiveness of the apparatus based on this principle. This time, in order to further improve the separation accuracy of the apparus, we designed three types of magnetic circuits and conducted comparison experiments. As a result, we were able to separate corundum and calcite, which could not be separated by last year's apparatus. The resolution of the magnetic susceptibility was 0.4×10-7 emu/g. This technique has potential as a solid-state version of chromatography for separating solid mixtures by material.
