[PEM08-P28] The relevance between cosmic ray and ozone depletion

*Kazuyoshi Yamashita1 (1.The Open University of Japan)

Keywords:AEindex, cosmic ray, ozone

In the upper atmosphere, ozone is thought to be destroyed by NOx produced by galactic cosmic rays and solar cosmic rays.In order to clarify the decrease in total ozone with increasing NOx, a correlation map between AEindex and total ozone was created. The results showed that total ozone increased with increasing AEindex at low latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere. This suggests that the decrease in total ozone due to the increase in NOx is due more to galactic cosmic rays than to solar cosmic rays.
