[PEM15-P08] Magnetohydrodynamic simulations of asymmetric plasmoid-type magnetic reconnection

Keywords:Magnetic reconnection, Magnetohydrodynamics, Numerical simulation

Magnetic reconnection is thought to play an important role in space and solar plasmas. According to large-scale magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations, magnetic reconnection contains many plasmoids and becomes turbulent. Previous studies about plasmoid-type turbulent reconnection assumed symmetric conditions, in which the density and magnetic field of the inflow regions are symmetrical. Actually, magnetic reconnection may occur at boundaries with different plasma densities and magnetic fields, but little is known about the behavior of asymmetric plasmoid-type magnetic reconnection. In this study, we investigate the basic properties of asymmetric plasmoid-type magnetic reconnection by large-scale numerical simulation. In this presentation, we will report the initial results such as the reconnection rate.
