[SIT21-09] Waveform inversion for the structure of Earth's deep interior: Progress and Prospects

*Kenji Kawai1 (1.Department of Earth and Planetary Science, School of Science, University of Tokyo)

Keywords:Waveform inversion, Studies of the Earth's deep interior

We formulated the inverse problem of waveform inversion for localized 3-D seismic structure, computing partial derivatives of waveforms with respect to the elastic moduli at arbitrary points in space for anisotropic and anelastic media (Geller and Hara 1993) and applied our method to the assembled dataset to invert for 3-D seismological structure (Kawai et al. 2014; Konishi et al. 2014). In this presentation, we will introduce the recent progress of mainly our research group (Borgeaud et al. 2017, 2019; Suzuki et al. 2020) and discuss perspectives of waveform inversion studies on the structure of Earth's deep interior.
