[SMP26-P04] Density measurement of silicate melt by the buoyancy test under high pressure

Keywords:magma, density, mantle, high pressure, sink/float method

Density of magma (silicate melt) controls its transportation in the Earth’s interior. Therefore, it is important to determine the density of silicate melts under high pressure. We adopted the buoyancy test of the density marker crystals in the silicate melt using a multianvil apparatus installed at Tohoku University. Based on the observation of sinking and flotation of the crystals in the melts, we determined the compression curves of sodium and potassium silicate melts.
