The Scientific Commitee on Antarctic Research (WCRP) is one of the international scientific organizations that the Science Council of Japan (SCJ) has joined on behalf of Japan. The SCJ has sent Japanese representatives to the delegate meetings and science group business meetings to help planning international research programs, fostering young researchers, and supporting research exchanges. The achievements and prospects of the SCAR includes the contribution to the knowledge on the future of mankind, through the international scientific research in the Antarctic region, and on the role of the Antarctic region in the Earth system.

The presentation introduces the SCAR in five minutes. The session will be concluded by a discussion on the future promotion of international activities through the SCJ.
