The International Cartographic Association (ICA) is one of the international scientific organizations that the Science Council of Japan (SCJ) has joined on behalf of Japan. ICA has a mission to promote the disciplines and professions of cartography and GIScience in an international context, and has co-published a book “Mapping for a Sustainpable World” with the United Nations. Scientists and professionals participating in the activities of ICA have dispatched representatives to general assemblies and international conferences, proposed and managed new committees, fostered young researchers, and supported research exchanges. They also successfully hosted the 29th International Cartographic Conference in Tokyo in 2019. The achievements and a prospects of the ICA will be introduced in a five-minute presentation, and the session will conclude with a discussion on the future promotion of international activities through the SCJ.
