The International Mineralogical Association (IMA) is one of the international scientific organizations that the Science Council of Japan (SCJ) has joined on behalf of Japan. IMA contributed to naming and classification of newly discovered minerals, advance in mineralogical sciences such as environmental and resource mineralogy for a sustainable global society, planning international research collaborations, fostering young researchers, and supporting research exchanges. SCJ contributed to the activity of IMA by dispatching representatives to science steering committees. Achievements and prospects of IMA will be introduced in a five-minute presentation, and the session will conclude with discussions on the future promotion of international activities through the SCJ.
