[U-08] Large-scale Projects in Earth and Planetary Science

Mon. May 23, 2022 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM Exhibition Hall Special Setting (2) (Exhibition Hall 8, Makuhari Messe)

convener:Takuji Nakamura(National Institute of Polar Research), convener:Eiichi Tajika(Department of Earth and Planetary Science, Graduate School of Science, The University of Tokyo), Kenji Satake(Earthquake Research Institute, University of Tokyo), convener:Yukihiro Takahashi(Department of Cosmosciences, Graduate School of Science, Hokkaido University), Chairperson:Eiichi Tajika(Department of Earth and Planetary Science, Graduate School of Science, The University of Tokyo)

Many of top sciences in Earth and Planetary Science (EPS) are progressed by big projects that require 1-10 billion JPY or more. In order to realize such big projects, we need an arena for them to be brushed up through critical reviews among various fields in EPS. Deeper mutual understandings through serious discussions there will enable us to reach a final consensus on the priorities of the projects. The Master Plan (MP) of Large-scale Research issued by the Science Council of Japan strongly has motivated us to follow the process described above, resulting that some of the selected projects have been funded successfully. We believe that continuing such efforts of discussion on large-scale projects, i.e., the recognition of current large-scale project plans and decision of their priority by our community, is significantly beneficial.
This session is devoted to the forum for introducing the large-scale plans in EPS and evaluating them by our EPS community. Also discussed will be the situations including other research fields and strategic plans of promoting EPS studies. The session is to be co-sponsored by JpGU and EPS Committee of Science Council of Japan.
