In August 2016, the 17th Summer School for Children on Earthquakes and Volcanoes (" Summer School ") was held at the Nanki-Kumano Geopark under the theme of "Secrets of the Sea and Mountains of Nanki-Kumano". A total of 38 children from elementary, junior high, and high schools participated, not only from Wakayama Prefecture but also from all over Japan (Nittari et al., 2017). And more than 10 members of the Nanki-Kumano Geopark Guide Club who are certified Geopark guides participated as coordinators, local instructors, staff, and "big children. The next year, 2017, the 1st Nanki-Kumano Geopark Children's School in Kushimoto (" Children's School ") was planned and implemented by those guides, with 21 elementary and junior high school students participating and 13 Geopark guides as staff (Tsukiyama et al., 2018). In 2018, the 2nd Children's School activities were held mainly in the Shiomisaki area in Kushimoto Town, Wakayama Prefecture. There were 11 elementary school students and 2 junior high school students who participated, and 13 Geopark guides plaied a variety of roles in organizing the event.
The Nanki-Kumano Geopark has conducted two Children's School which are based on the following Summer School format and methods. The target is elementary and junior high school students. (Summer School is also open to high school students.) Schedule of two days and one night The program consists of field work, observation, and experiments. A debriefing session to summarize and present what was learned during the two-day school Throughout the program, the guide staff will not be teaching, but will be in the position of " friends who learn and experience together". There are professors, but they don't provide "answers". After the last two self-organized events, we recognized the need for a children's program more suited to local conditions and our own ability to implement it. The program is called "La Geolaria Club - A Geo Class for Children and Adults". In this project, the above five points have been updated as follows.
In this presentation, we will introduce the contents of this project implemented in FY2020 and its prospects.
