The children’s summer school on earthquakes and volcanoes, and geology is an annual workshop for children held in various locations in Japan by the Seismological Society of Japan, the Volcanological Society of Japan, and the Geological Society of Japan. The workshop is characterized by the participation of leading researchers who are most appropriate for the venue. Over the past 23 years, 86 researchers have participated in the workshop, 50 of whom have participated only once before.
The venues are decided by open call, so not only researchers who are good at outreach participate.
Based on a questionnaire survey, researchers who supported the summer school in their capacity as experts will report on what they think about the summer school, what they themselves gained, how it differs from other outreach programs, and the significance of the academic community in organizing the summer school.
