A mega-solar power plant is currently being planned for the summit of Mount Okubo in Ofunato City, Iwate Prefecture. Many of the local residents are opposed to the construction of this facility. The reason for their opposition is that the construction of the power plant may pollute their drinking water. The construction may also adversely affect the fishery. In addition, the land on which the power plant will be built was originally common land in the area. Therefore, there are people who are opposed to the use of their land against their will. The residents of this area live in close relationship with the natural environment, and they are strongly opposed to any project that would disturb the current natural environment.
