[MZZ50-01] Strong anthropic principle and the plurality of worlds

*Shigeyuki Aoki1 (1.Faculty of Letters, Chuo University)

Keywords:anthropic principle, cosmic principle, plurality of worlds, extraterrestrial intelligence

Strong anthropic principle holds that human being on earth (such intelligent being) imposes constraints on the history and structure of the universe. This idea is in conflict with cosmic principle, which has for long stated that human being is no privileged being in the universe, and has also been the standard principle from the time of Copernicus (Matsuda 1990; Aoki 2013). Strong anthropic principle is differentiated from weak anthropic principle which just explains the present situation of the universe, and makes substantial claims about the nature of the universe. This presentation argues how strong principle is to be understood today, after the 1980s when the “anthropic” principle was first formulated, and when the reality of the plurality of worlds (other intelligent being than human being on earth) is taken seriously.
