The knowledge in Earth and planetary sciences are widely shared with society through education and outreach activities. And, these knowledge support modern civilization. Research community and society are deeply interrelated. Research results are utilized in various aspects of society. The research is supported by taxes. Researchers and society must deepen mutual understanding and build a good relationship. The discussion of the relationship between researchers and society should be of interest to all researchers. This presentation will give an overview of the relationship between researchers and society in the earth and planetary science community to date, and indicate the direction of the discussion in this session.
