[ACG42-P07] Implementing reservoir operation scheme in a global river model, and its impact on river hydrodynamics

*Dai Yamazaki1 (1.Institute of Industrial Sciences, The University of Tokyo)

Keywords:Global River Model, Reservoir Operation, Hydrodynamics

Many rivers in the world are affected by dam development, and both floods and low flows are affected by dam operations. Global river models are a basic tool used for flood forecasting and water resource assessment. As long as the actual river hydrodynamics is affected by dam operation, it is required to represent dam operation in global river models. However, there are few examples of introducing dam operation into global river models, especially physically-based models that calculate river hydrodynamics with a shallow water equation. In this study, by implementing a dam operation scheme in the global river model CaMa-Flood, we will investigate what kind of ingenuity is necessary for modeling dam operation, and what impact on upstream and downstream hydrodynamics can be reproduced.
