In this paper, we discuss current situations of concepts, approaches and frameworks of the literacy for disaster risk reduction (DRR), reviewing the recent academic researches in and ouf of Japan. The term of literacy for DRR is a new word that was at first advocated after the 1995 Kobe eathquake disaster, and has increasingly been important as an interface for bridging gaps between the science and the society, the natural sciences and the human and social sciences, the govenment and the community or civil society, and so on. However, as a concluding remark, we would point out some tendencies growingly to over-applied directions empharsizing its aspect as a handy tool kit, rather widening the gaps.
