[HTT14-03] Assessing students' knowledge retention and mitigation behaviors using a VR flood system
キーワード:Disaster education, Virtual reality simulation, Risk perception, Flood
Disaster education plays a vital role in school safety development. However, studies on the disaster risk perception of students, who may be vulnerable when faced with disasters, are limited. Therefore, student learning in disaster education should be assessed. VR (virtual reality) attracts attention as a modern way of teaching. Consequently, we are developing a virtual reality flood system (VRFS) to simulate appropriate flood mitigation behaviors in real life and to be used in student implementations. We assume that VR realizes effective risk perceptions, which along with coping appraisals leads to appropriate mitigation behaviors. Through the implementations using the VRFS, students’ risk perceptions, mitigation behaviors, and learning effects are evaluated. The results provide insights into the design of the VRFS and relevant disaster education.
