The Geologist and Buddhist, Ishikawa Seisho (1872-1945) was born in Aichi Prefecture. After the graduation from the Imperial University of Tokyo in 1899, he taught in junior high school, normal school, Waseda University, and Kyoto Imperial University. Especially his work on the relationship between natural science and Buddhism (1907) will be analyzed with the background of early twentieth-century religious thought and the popularization of geological sciences.
