[MZZ39-P05] Mary Stopes and Kono Yasui - the begining of paleobotany in Japan

Mary Stopes (1880-1958) studied mineralized plant fossils and got doctoral degree from UCL in 1902. In 1903 she met Kenjiro Fujii (1866-1952) who studied fossil of Gingo in Munich and loved each other. In 1907 she came to Japan and studied plant fossils in Hokkaido. Their love was broken but they wrote the first paper of Japanese plant fossils (Stopes and Fujii, 1920). Kono Yasui (1880-1971) was the first woman getting doctoral degere of science. She wrote on also mineralized plant fossils in Japan and got degree in 1927. Her mentor was Kenjiro Fujii.
