[SVC33-08] Efforts of the Japan Meteorological Agency in evaluating volcanic activity
Keywords:volcanic activity evaluation, multi-item data, alert levels criteria
In addition, based on the knowledge obtained in the recent volcanic activity, we are working to review the observational data in past volcanic unrests. For example, it is summarized by Nihara et al. (2022) for Azumayama and Fuwa et al. (2022) for Usuzan.
In addition to reusing the accumulated observational data, we will continue to work on improving our technical capabilities in volcanic activity evaluation and improving alert levels criteria, while incorporating new knowledge such as research results. On the other hand, the phenomena that can be assumed are still limited, and the issues is how to gracefully deal with events that occur infrequently.
We will report on the current status of the accumulation of analysis cases and the issues involved in improving such volcanic activity evaluations at JMA.
