[AAS09-02] Altitude-specific estimation of photochemical oxidants sources by drone measurement and model simulation: Intensive observations campaign at Fukue Island in October 2023

Photochemical oxidants (Ox, mainly ozone (O3) are produced via chemical reactions involving nitrogen oxides (NOx) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The Japanese environmental quality standard (EQS) for Ox was established in 1973, and the EQS for Ox has not been satisfied at most monitoring stations in Japan. One possible reason for Ox pollution in Japan is the long-range from East Asia, and the worsening of Ox pollution in East Asia itself also has been a concerning issue. Numerical modeling is a useful approach to understanding long-range transport; however, the evaluation of modeling compared to routine measurements is generally limited at the surface level. Satellite measurements can be available but the observed concentration is the vertically integrated column from the surface through the entire troposphere. In this study, recent advances of drone to capture the air quality status was applied to measure the long-range transported Ox. We coordinated the intensive campaign in October 2023, and a total of ten times vertical Ox data from the surface to 1000 m were obtained at Fukue Island, Nagasaki Prefecture which is located in the westernmost part of Japan. Additionally using numerical modeling, we simulated the spatial distribution of Ox over East Asia during this campaign. We will discuss the details of estimated Ox sources at different altitudes in this conference.
