Keywords:Argo, dissolved oxygen, quality control

Argo floats have been equipped with dissolved oxygen sensors since around 2005, and as of February 2024, approximately 15% of the about 3,900 operational floats are equipped with dissolved oxygen sensors. Most of the floats are equipped with optical dissolved oxygen sensors from Xylem's Aanderaa Optode series or SBE-BIRD SCIENTIFIC's SBE series. The resolution of these sensors is about 0.2~1 micro-mol/L, and their long response time makes it difficult to accurately capture abrupt vertical gradients, so the response time is corrected during the delayed mode quality control phase. On the other hand, JFE Advantech Corporation developed a float-mounted RINKO (ARO-FT) in 2011 in collaboration with JAMSTEC, which features higher accuracy and resolution and faster response time than the above sensors. To demonstrate these features, JAMSTEC has deployed several floats with ARO-FT. In addition, in the new research project "Mid-latitude atmosphere-ocean interaction hotspot in a changing climate system," we are studying how temperature, salinity, and dissolved oxygen In order to investigate the potential impact of the water temperature, salinity, and dissolved oxygen anomalies taken into the ocean with subtropical mode water from the formation region on the downstream region, 12 floats equipped with ARO-FT were deployed in the [25-31N, 130-170E] region from February 2021 to April 2022. We will report the results of a re-evaluation of the accuracy of the ARO-FTs measured dissolved oxygen profile data on the floats, including their storage drift and temporal drift.
