[G02-04] Practical public relations and awareness activities on the Internet regarding lunar and planetary exploration - 25 years of The Moon Station -

*Junya Terazono1 (1.Moon and Planets LLC)

Keywords:Lunar Exploration, Planetary Exploration, SLIM, Outreach

The soft landing of SLIM, Smart Lander for Investigating Moon, in January 2024 triggered a social boom throughout Japan. This is a trend that has continued since the first "HAYABUSA" and "HAYABUSA2," and is the first event of its kind for lunar exploration.
Since 1998, we have been operating the "The Moon Station" (initially named "Internet Symposium: Back to the Moon Again") (https://moonstation.jp), a website that provides information on the Moon and lunar exploration via the Internet. Many things such as the operating entity and its domain name have changed, and in addition to lunar exploration, planetary exploration has been added to the information provided. However, the original concept of "deepening understanding of the Moon and providing easy-to-understand, accurate explanations of lunar and planetary exploration" has not changed at all over the past 25 years. This presentation will review the 25 years of public relations and outreach activities at The Moon Station, and discuss the significance of the communications that have cultivated (or led to) the social boom of SLIM landing on the Moon, as well as the prospects for the future public relations and outreach in light of future trends in lunar exploration.
