[MIS11-P06] Elucidation of factors forming stream water quality in forested watersheds of the southern part of the Tanzawa Mountains

Keywords:stream water quality, water quality formation, Tanzawa Mountains

The study was conducted in the headwaters of three streams flowing from southern part of the Tanzawa Mountains. The purpose of this study was to clarify the influence of watershed characteristics on the formation of stream water quality. Stream water was collected regularly at 48 sites within the three watersheds. The collected samples were measured for electrical conductivity, pH, and major ion concentrations. The electrical conductivity of stream water tended to be higher in watersheds where the watershed soil was Andosols than brown forest soil. This indicates that differences in soils within a watershed have a significant effect on stream water quality.
