Investigation of the time of occurrence of the disturbance of the water surface in China seems to make it possible to understand earthquakes and eruptions in East Asia.
In this study, we examined Chinese records of water disturbances on the same day as the earthquake on June 30th, 1498 and the 1597 eruption of Mt. Baekdu, with the help of collections of Chinese meteorological records "A compendium of Chinese meteorological records of the last 3,000 years.
It was pointed out by Utsu (1988) that there is a record of water surface motion in China on the same day as the earthquake that occurred on June 30, 1498. We checked "A compendium of Chinese meteorological records of the last 3,000 years. and there are two records of water disturbance on the same day in Shanghai, three in Jiangsu Province, and four in Zhejiang Province.
Next, in relation to the eruption of Mt. Paektu in 1597, it was known that there was descriptions of earthquakes in records of the Joseon Dynasty. (Database of historical materials of earthquake, https://materials.utkozisin.org/ : J00006829) There were two in Shanxi Province, one in Shaanxi Province, and one in Shandong Province.
These records will be introduced in the study.
