The earliest document introducing the 1707 Hoei eruption of Mt. Fuji to foriegn countries is Sur les volcans du Japan, written by Julius Heinrich Klaproth (1783-1835), a French scholar.
Klaproth' descriptions were introduced in Der vulcane , written by Georg Landgrebe(1802-1873),
and requoted by Wada (1882). Therefore, Klaproth's description has been known in Japan.
Source of information on the 1707 Hoei eruption of Mt. Fuji written by Klaproth has been unknown.
In this study, we claim that the source is Wakan sansai zue by Ryoan Terashima (1654-?). Especially, we discuss the following sentences.
