Since 2018, our club has been studying the Sanriku Geopark, discussing meaningful and attractive geopark activities, and making various suggestions. In 2023, the evaluation method by H. Takagi and K. Kishida (2020) was carried out for 12 geosites in the northern area. In the course of the discussion, the opinion was expressed that the safety assessment should be strengthened in terms of evacuation in Sanriku, which is considered to be an earthquake and tsunami prone area. Therefore, evacuation routes and evacuation plans were developed, and a new geodiversity assessment guideline was created based on this plan.
The new evaluation guideline is named "Disaster Preparedness" and consists of the following three points. 1. Clearly defined and explained evacuation routes (Vdp1), 2. Evacuation drills and their frequency (Vdp2), and 3. Flexibility in responding to disasters (Vdp3).
With the new evaluation guideline, 11 geosites have been evaluated. The evaluation results will be presented in a poster. We want to improve it further and use it to evaluate and improve the safety of many geosites.
This study has allowed us to learn about the effectiveness of geodiversity assessment and the activities of disaster management organizations.
In the future, we would like to continue our research with the task of improving and applying the new assessment we have made. In addition, we would like to acquire the attitude to fear and properly prepare for a major earthquake and a major tsunami.
