The Science Council of Japan (SCJ) was established in 1949 as a special organization independent of the
government with the aim of incorporating scientific perspectives into government administration, industry,
and society. In order to better fulfill its role as a national academy, the SCJ has been undergoing reforms
and has been in dialogue with various stakeholders. In parallel with this process, "Toward the
Incorporation of the Science Council of Japan" was published based on the "Interim Report" compiled
during the 10th Advisory Panel on the Future of the Science Council of Japan, held in December 2023. It
is crucial for the SCJ to design a system that ensures ever greater independence and autonomy while
adequately fulfilling its functions and meeting the expectations of the public. The SCJ will carefully
examine the details of the system and actively participate in future discussions to address any concerns.
Furthermore, efforts will be made to advance the SCJ’s activities in line with reform efforts based on the
"Science Council of Japan's 26th Action Plan Framework" toward realization.
