A high-resolution atmosphere-ocean coupled model, so called NICOCO, has been developed by combining the global non-hydrostatic atmospheric model NICAM with the high-resolution ocean general circulation model COCO. However, the reliability of NICOCO has not been verified and needs to be validated prior to specific applications. In this study, we choose the relationship between the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) and the ocean surface layer as a target of the verification of NICOCO in the tropics. It has been pointed out that although the MJO may be primarily an atmospheric phenomenon, there is a possibility that it interacts with the ocean surface layer within a diurnal timescale and this interaction impacts the behavior of the MJO. Detailed analysis is still ongoing, and we will present results at the conference.
