Under global warming, the melting and retreat of glacial has formed glacial lakes and other glacial landforms to rapidly appear in polar regions. The rapid emergence of glacial lakes reflects the supply of glacial water after the melting of glacial bodies. Their importance and contribution to the carbon dioxide cycle continue to be valued. However, the issue of this glacial lake lacks research tools suitable for shallow water surveys, making it difficult to conduct a comprehensive investigation. Furthermore, the continued expansion of glacial lakes is regarded as a natural resource or an environmental disaster. If the lower reaches of the glaciers are the location of settlements, further monitoring is necessary.
During this exploration of Svalbard Island in the Arctic, taking into account the limitations of the research site and transportation, we used 3D design to design a small but robust autonomous unmanned surface vehicles with good stability, and the ability to be quickly assembled in the wild. It is also equipped with RTK positioning system and single-beam sonar for exploration and investigation. Based on the precision assessment can achieve the centimeter-level accuracy level and the IHO special level. Through the auto mission of the USV, a complete underwater mapping of a glacial lake in front of the Aavatsmarkbree glacier in Kaffiøyra has been carried out. Data processing and mapping will continue to be carried out and used as a reference for further investigations in the future.
