[MZZ45-P01] Disaster reduction education and promotion of attractions through the "Toya-Usu UNESCO Global Geopark Test (Mt.Usu)"

*KOKI KANETA1 (1.Toya-Usu UNESCO Global Geopark)

Keywords:Mt.Usu, Disaster risk reduction

[Background to Geopark Test Implementation]
Mt. Usu, located at the center of the Toya-Usu UNESCO Global Geopark, is an active volcano that has erupted repeatedly. The " Toya-Usu UNESCO Global Geopark Test (Mt. Usu)" was implemented on March 27, 2025, with the aim of providing an opportunity for people living in the area around Mt. Usu to learn about Mt. Usu in preparation for the next eruption, and to promote understanding of the attractions and dangerous areas of Mt. Usu so that people can enjoy the charm of the active volcano safely during calm times.

[Creation of the test text]
The test tests knowledge of Mt. Usu's eruption history and disaster mitigation. It updates the information in the supplementary textbook for junior high school students currently used to learn about Mt. Usu, "Usu Volcano Disaster Prevention Education Supplementary Textbook: Junior High School Edition: Hinoyama no Kanade" (Usu Volcano Disaster Prevention Education Supplementary Textbook Creation Committee (2003, 2004)), and adds information such as "Preparing for the Eruption of Mt. Usu," which summarizes the Mt. Usu volcano disaster prevention map, eruption alert levels, and the latest evacuation shelter situation, and "Observation Points to Learn About Mt. Usu," which summarizes 42 observation points where you can learn about Mt. Usu. It has been newly created as "Lake Toya and Mt. Usu Geopark Test Textbook (Mt. Usu)." It will be released on the website of the Lake Toya and Mt. Usu Geopark Promotion Council on February 28, 2025.

[Future]
Toya-Usu UNESCO Global Geopark Promotion Council plans to operate the "Geopark Adventure Guide List (Mt.Usu)" for guides who will be working in the restricted access areas of Mt.Usu from 2025, and one of the requirements for listing is to have a certain level of correct answer rate in this test. It is hoped that the test will be held on an ongoing basis in order to re-recognize and reuse Mt.Usu as a tourism resource for the region.
