Sado Island Geopark holds community information meetings to convey the value of the site to the communities where the site is located and the surrounding area. At the meetings, local residents are made aware of the importance of preserving the sites and other valuable places, and the attractiveness of each village is also explored in addition to the overall value of the Sado Geopark, while engaging in conversation with local residents who attend the meetings.
Through these activities, we have discovered valuable places in the region that were not previously known and have led to projects in cooperation with the museum.
For example, in the community of Hanyu in the Ryotsu district of Sado City, the relationship between the Niigata Port construction project and the community, which had not been widely recognized by the local people, became clear.
This presentation will introduce the contents of the community information meetings and activities such as the derived projects.
