[SGD02-09] Advancements in RINEX pre-processing software “RINGO” and “RNXCMP” for RINEX 4.02 compatibility
Keywords:GNSS, RINEX, Pre-processing software, Compression
The latest version of a GNSS data archive format, RINEX 4.02, was released in October 2024. The multi-GNSS data pre-processing software “RINGO” and the compression software “RNXCMP” have been updated to support the latest RINEX 4.02. In addition, the RINEX compression format “Compact RINEX” has also been extended. The latest versions of the software are RINGO v0.9.3 and RNXCMP v4.2.0. It is strongly recommended to update RNXCMP because the extended Compact RINEX file cannot be handled by previous versions of RNXCMP.
The RINEX 4.02 update includes changes that cannot be handled by existing software, such as the addition of new record definitions for observation and navigation data: the addition of navigation message subtypes, and the addition of optional extra digits for timetag in observation data to record pico-second resolution, etc. This change also affects the RINEX compression format “Compact RINEX” because the pico-seconds part had not been defined.
The update of RINGO software includes following new features:
- Support for the latest RINEX 4.02
- Implement IGRF14 geomagnetic filed model used for ionospheric correction
- Enhancement of the functionalities of file conversion commands bingo and rtcmgo
- Add check of Galileo F/I navigation types
- Bug fixes
RNXCMP software has also been updated to support the RINEX 4.02. In this update, the Compact RINEX format has been extended and the new Compact RINEX version 3.1 is defined. This update supports storing pico-second part of the time epoch that has been newly introduced by RINEX 4.02. The extended record is followed by the record of the receiver clock offset. The Compact RINEX 3.1 files can be processed using the previous version of RNXCMP (<=v4.1.0); however, the pico-second part will be ignored. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to update RNXCMP to the latest version 4.2.0.
These updates will greatly contribute to the utilization of RINEX 4.02. The updates of the RINGO and RNXCMP software packages are available on GSI’s website. Any comments as well as bug reports on the software are welcome.
