Iminopyridinenickel(II) complexes immobilized into fluorotetrasilicic mica interlayer as a heterogeneous catalyst was prepared by a one-pot preparation method and used for ethylene oligomerization. By selecting substituents on an iminopyridine ligand, the ratio of the solid and liquid products was possible to be controlled. Because the oligomerization of ethylene afforded the linear olefins mainly, it was suggested that the increasing frequency of the isomerization of the carbon-metal bond and the subsequent ethylene insertion after the beta-hydrogen elimination was required to achieve the formation of the branched olefins.
