It has been reported that Cu impregnated on HZSM-5 powder effectively catalyzes the gas-phase oxidation of benzene to phenol. However, it is difficult to industrially use this catalyst as a fine powder and necessary to form it as a molding material. In this study, we attempt that the spherical molding zeolite is prepared by binderless zeolite method referring the patents from Nippon Shokubai. The direct gas-phase oxidation of benzene to phenol is carried out by using the Cu catalysts anchored on this molding zeolite by an ion-exchange method.
