[2B6-GS-12-03] Support Method for Promoting Concept Grounding in Discovery Learning of Biology
Keywords:Discovery learning, Concept grounding, Reorganizing concept, Biology
In the primary/secondary school education, an important challenge for observational learning in the field of natural science is the lack of learning environment that balances learning outcomes and learners’ independence. Problem-posing is known as an activity that prompts independent activities and recovery from own misunderstanding. This study aims to propose a learning method for observational learning based on problem posing and its support method. The proposed learning method includes a phase through which learners are prompted to deepen their understanding of real objects corresponding to concepts learned in class, and another one for discovering new objects related to own concepts through problem posing. As for the support method, we developed a mechanism to grasp learners’ understanding state based on relationships between learned concepts in class and observed ones. The proposed learning method and model of support method are expected to promote own-understanding during observational learning.
