[3H2-GS-9b-01] Designing a Micro-learning Application for English Reading Comprehension
Keywords:English reading comprehension assistance, Machine translation, Estimation of English skills, Behavior change, micro learning
We propose a novel micro-learning application for English reading comprehension. Many Japanese adults struggle with learning English and cannot acquire enough skills, even though they have spent a lot of time on learning. How can technology reduce those struggles of the learners and make use of their motivation to keep or promote their learning? We explore those research questions through the design, prototyping, and evaluation of our proposed application that consists of three key concepts for improving their English skills as follow: (1) content push for promoting micro-learning, (2) fast translation for easy reading, and (3) visualization feedback for representing their current skill. In this report, we describe our proposed application design and discuss findings from the user study that evaluated the effect of the application for our research questions.
