[4R3-OS-22b-02] A behavior-aware interface for facilitating an interactive discussion with a virtual white board
Keywords:virtual white board, cooperative work, interface design
In this paper, we address awareness of remote users in a virtual white board environment. Estimating intentions and predicting behaviors of other persons are necessary to establish a smooth communication. However, they are difficult in an existing video conference system for insufficient observations of other users. To enhance awareness of user's attention and capability for white board operations, we propose a display of a facial image that tells where a remote user is looking at and a comprehensive illustration of how editing tools for a white board are occupied by which user, respectively. Through the preliminary experiments, we confirmed that the proposed method improves user's prediction for a location of the next draw and interactive communications with a drawer.
