[4R3-OS-22b-05] A Learning Support Tool for Group Discussion Skills
Keywords:Group discussion, Virtual character
Group discussions are widely used to evaluate students’ discussion skills in job and school admission interviews. However, some students may find improving their discussion skills rather challenging because the learning process for these capacities is not clear, and suitable training methods are not available. In a previous work, we investigated some common difficulties that students experience with group discussions and proposed a chart to provide suitable advice for them. In this study, we continue this investigation by proposing a learning tool to help students improve their discussion skills using virtual characters. The virtual characters play the role of discussion participants and present situations in which the user is required to select appropriate responses; by doing this, the user learns which behaviors are suitable in different situations. The results of a preliminary experiment showed that the tool must be able to provide relevant details of different situations must be clearly expressed, and suitable options must be provided for each situation.
