Efforts to tackle climate change through technological innovation aim for global net-zero greenhouse gas emissions but often neglect ethical considerations, leading to implementation challenges. The complexity of assessing ethical issues requires interdisciplinary expertise and substantial time. Previous research has largely focused on isolated case studies of specific technologies.
To address this, we propose a framework using Large Language Models (LLMs) to identify ethical considerations in climate technologies, using newspaper articles and wind energy as a case study. This approach allows for the analysis of ethical concerns across different technologies and regions, revealing temporal variations in ethical focus among countries.
Our framework aids in climate policy development by enhancing transparency in technology adoption and helping companies identify and mitigate long-term ethical risks.
