[2Q1-IS-3-03] Development of an Affordable and User-Friendly Lower Body Motion Capture System Utilizing IMUs and Flex Sensors
[[Online]]
Keywords:motion capture, gait tracking, VR, AR, Human-Computer Interaction
This paper introduces a lower body motion capture system designed to be both affordable and user-friendly, addressing the significant gap in accessible motion tracking technologies. With the utilization of a 6 DOF IMU and flex sensors attached to each knee, our system aims to provide accurate motion tracking without the complexity and cost associated with professional setups. By focusing on the key lower body joints and leveraging a transformer neural network trained on the extensive AMASS dataset, we propose a solution that enhances accuracy and reliability in capturing lower body movements. This approach simplifies the process of gait tracking, making it feasible for a wider audience beyond professional studios. Our system's development represents a step towards increasing access to motion capture technology, offering a scalable and efficient method for detailed movement analysis. While this system is still in development, we hope to complete this project and evaluate its effectiveness in the future.
