To analyze communication and develop effective applications, it is necessary to conduct research from multiple
perspectives. Communication has been studied in various fields such as psychology, sociology, linguistics, media
studies, education, engineering, and others. This paper introduces communication research on themes such as
“Challenges and developments in social signal processing research,” “Support system for improving students’ communication
skills using multimodal information,” “Communication research to encourage continued participation,”
“Acquiring insights into communication,” and “Weak communication between humans and robots in a symbiotic
society.” The aim is to consider what previous communication research has revealed and how future research should
be conducted.
