[2R6-OS-13a-02] Online Communication Environment Design for Effective Use of Collective Intelligence in Group Problem Solving
Keywords:media communication, collaborative problem solving, computer-supported cooperative learning, echo chamber, participation structure
Generally, it is possible to exist multiple dialogues in one space at the same time face-to-face, which allows people to interact easily with the opinions or ideas of others. However, online communication environments are often isolated, making it challenging to engage in collaborative problem-solving and discussions. This study aims to design an online environment that enables collaboration among discussing groups. As a first step in this effort, this study conducted an experiment in which participants generated ideas in a face-to-face situation that simulated an online interactive environment to clarify whether allowing groups of problem solvers to contact each other improves the problem-solving performance of the group as a whole. The results indicated that the propagation of ideas that contributed to problem-solving confirmed under the condition of contact with other groups.
